Previously, we mentioned the connection between Pepe and José.  We had an e-mail in the last few days from a friend who was dealing with a person named Francisco but he said his name was Paco and this she found a little confusing.  Once again, there is a religious connection.  The nickname has its origins in Saint Francis of Assisi, who was the father of the Franciscan order. His name was written by the order as Pater Comunitatis (Father of the community); “Paco” is obtained by taking the first syllable of each word.  Another nickname for Francisco is Pancho.
